Introduction to Vinyasa w/ Matt & Liz Ottenbach

  • Expand Yoga 3909 6th Avenue Tacoma, WA, 98406 United States (map)

$30 / limited to 20 people / free with membership

Vinyasa yoga is a fun, dynamic, easy to love style of practice focused on linking movement with breath. Sun salutations are a hallmark of this style, and the patterns introduced through the sun salutation provide the building blocks for many other postures.

We will discuss the breath, break down key postures and transitions, and take time to ensure you understand the optimal alignment. The overall intention will be more ease, enjoyment, clarity, strength, and safety in your practice.

This workshop is designed primarily for curious beginners, and open to all practitioners looking to refine their understanding of the basic elements of a vinyasa practice.

  • In this workshop we will:

  • Explore ujjayi “ooh-JAI-yee” breath, the breathing technique practiced in vinyasa.

  •  Break down the most basic postures including standing (tadasana), downward facing dog, upward facing dog, plank, and lowering from upward plank to lower plank (chaturanga)  .

Explore common transitions within a vinyasa practice, including modifications).

  •  Use hands-on adjustments, props, and demonstrations.

  • Finally, we will put it all together in a fun, challenging sun salutation -- a movement likely to show up in just about any vinyasa style practice.
