Autumn Yin Yoga w/ Ashley Anderson

To celebrate the season of Autumn we will practice a 90 min yin sequence paired with a Yoga Nidra. This sequence is designed to help balance our boundaries and find clarity within.

Autumn is the beginning of a turning inward before the deep introspection season of winter. Autumn inspires us to shed and let go of anything that does not serve us. There is deep wisdom, clarity and insight available to us as we are invited to explore our inner terrain. Autumn is the element of metal. Metal brings change as it embodies the ability to cut through other elements, transforming one into another. Metal brings insight of minerals, minerals of the earth - that which bring richness and structure in our lives.  We strip away to build back up a more refined structure. 

We will move through a yin series focused on the lungs and large intestine, the organs of Autumn. Our lungs pull vital energy into our bodies and house our Wei Qi (Defensive Qi). Our lungs set up our boundaries and are our inner mediator from the external world. The large intestine’s main function is to carry away impurities of body mind spirit. The large intestine ensures that we let go of what no longer is serving us. 

Our bodies are working in harmony with the seasons of the earth. Yin yoga invites us to slow down and be with ourselves. Let’s explore this season of discernment and clarity, quieting the mind and listening to the deep inner wisdom of our bodies. 

The yin yoga practice includes long held passive asanas, which applies stress to the deeper connective tissues. This practice stimulates our facial network, increasing range of motion and strength in our joints and ligaments. 

The yin practice also stimulates the meridian lines where Qi (prana) flows through. In Daoist theory, Qi is held within our blood and organs. When there is stagnation or blockages to this flow of Qi, specific yin postures can be practiced to free up the flow of Qi again. This free flow of Qi (prana) is vital for health and longevity.
