Late Summer Yin

The fifth season, the element of Earth

  • Day: August 24th 3:30-5:30pm

  • Cost: $30 advance / $35 at door

To celebrate the transitional season of late summer we will practice a 90 min yin sequence focused on balancing the Earth element within our bodies- coinciding with the spleen and stomach meridians. This sequence is designed to help balance digestion and promote inner peace and mental clarity. We will supplement the yin practice with a yoga Nidra meditation designed to promote physical relaxation and inner peace.

Late summer is the pause following the active Summer and preceding the seasons of letting go and resting, Autumn and Winter. Late summer coincides with the Earth element which is about grounding, nourishment and security. We are so blessed with the Earth’s bounty and sweetness at this time of year. This season asks us to reflect on how we digest (food, emotions, experiences) and transform that into usable nutrients and energy.

Where do we hold conflict within ourselves? Where do we feel full and satisfied with the fruits of our labors?

The yin yoga practice includes long held passive asanas, which applies stress to the deeper connective tissues. This practice stimulates our facial network, increasing range of motion and strength in our joints and ligaments.

The yin practice also stimulates the meridian lines where Qi (prana) flows through. In Daoist theory, Qi is held within our blood and organs. When there is stagnation or blockages to this flow of Qi, specific yin postures can be practiced to free up the flow of Qi again. This free flow of Qi (prana) is vital for health and longevity.

Yin is a slow practice and it invites us to take time to be with ourselves without all of the external noise.
